I have been PhD student at the division of Waste Science and Technology (Department of Environmental Engineering) between 1996 and 2001. My thesis was to investigate the use of vegetation to indicate (Bioindication) and remediate (bioremediation) contaminant emissions from landfills.
I came to Luleå in 1992, as exchange student. I started at the division of Waste Science and Technology in 1994. During two years I was working for three different institutions i.e. the international office (as contact person for exchange students studying in France) the departemant of learning and teaching (as teacher in french) and the division of Waste Science and Technology doing research. Later, I worked as research Engineer at the landfill group, between 1995-1996.
In France, I did a practice period in an aluminium industry (Aluminium Pechiney -1992). During my education I have done several geological surveys.
Areas of interest:
Landfill gas emissions, methane oxidation, natural systems for emission treatment, constructed wetlands, and soil remediation.
The soil remediation centre (Marksaneringscentrum Norr - MCN) http://www.chem.umu.se/MCN
The soil remediation centre (Marksaneringscentrum Norr - MCN) is a research program financed by EU. The program started in 2001 and is financed until 2005. The objective of the program is to increase competence in soil remediation, in Northern Sweden.
The participants to the program are:
4 research institutes: Umeå University, Swedish university of Agriculture, the Swedish Defence research institute (all three in Umeå) and Luleå University of technology.
10 companies working with soil remediation, the cities of Umeå and Luleå.
The regional authorities in the counties of Norr- and Västerbotten.
About 15 researchers and 15 PhD-students are involved in the centre. Research is done about pollutant characterisation, transport, effects and risk assessment.
